Christopher Cooper began playing the horn in the public schools of San Jose CA. After a family move to Rockport MA he continued his studies in Boston eventually going to Boston University’s School for the Arts. While studying there Chris became a member of the Empire Brass and began his touring life. Deciding to continue his studies he moved back to California to work with David Krehbiel at the San Francisco Conservatory. Not long after leaving school Chris became a member of the Canadian Brass performing concerts all around the world. During that time the group received its first Grammy nomination for Take the A Train and won the Echo Klassic award for their recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Wanting to start a family Chris decided to leave the road life so that he and his wife Gina could actually be together. Since then he has worked with the San Francisco Symphony as an acting member including two years as acting associate principal horn. He also played two years as co-principal horn of the San Francisco Opera. Chris has been active in the movie, television, and video game recording world as well as performing orchestral and solo works on natural and baroque horn. Christopher is married to Gina Cooper who has been a violist with the San Francisco Symphony for 30 years. They have twin boys Ed, who is in the US Navy submarine service and Joe who is a heavy metal bass player.
