SACRAMENTO PHILHARMONIC & OPERA ANNOUNCES OPERA FINALE, THE BARBER OF SEVILLE
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera is pleased to announce the Opera Finale on April 25, 2020 will be a performance of Rossini’s hilarious comedy The Barber of Seville. Presented in the same semi-staged manner as last season’s stunning performance of Rigoletto, the production will be directed by Jennifer Williams. Christoph Campestrini (Tosca, 2017; Opera Favorites, 2018) returns to conduct.
Director Jennifer Williams is a Fulbright Scholar who specializes in site-specific and audience immersive opera presentations. In addition to leading new productions of standard repertory works at Pittsburgh Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Austin Opera and others around the country, Jennifer has directed performance installations throughout New York City and Washington D.C., incorporating the venue into the telling of the story. She will bring this unique skill set to the performance of The Barber of Seville in Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium to create a fun and unique experience for those in attendance.
“Having visited Sacramento recently to tour the Memorial Auditorium, I am so excited for the opportunities to utilize the entire space for this performance,” said Jennifer Williams. “The building lends itself incredibly well to surround the audience with the action and engage patrons in fun ways throughout the opera. It will upend a lot of assumptions about what going to the opera can be like. This Barber of Seville will be a unique experience for our audience – We’re going to have a good time with this performance!”
