SACRAMENTO, CALIF. January 29, 2019. The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera is pleased to announce the 2019 Beethoven Festival as its most successful concert series yet with back-to-back sold out performances! In addition to record ticket sales, this Beethoven Festival stands out thanks to the involvement of internationally recognized conductor and pianist, and former Music Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Jeffrey Kahane.

The kick-off weekend featured Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony and Fourth Piano Concerto. The festival finale, a week later, included the popular Fifth Symphony, Choral Fantasy, and excerpts from Mass in C.

“Clearly, Sacramento loves classical music and it’s exciting to be able to share this success with the community,” said Executive Director Alice Sauro. “We’re so grateful to our patrons for being on this journey with us and embracing all the new, exciting things brought to the stage and into the community.”

Since their 2015 return as a combined organization, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera has increased subscription sales by fifty percent, consistently sold out classical concerts, and continued to solidify a place on the Sacramento arts scene.

“Patrons often tell us they enjoy the variety of conductors and guest soloists who are presented in a way they’ve never experienced before,” said Sauro. “As we’ve further embedded ourselves into the community, attracting artists at the caliber of Maestro Kahane has been vital. That, combined with the artistic growth of the orchestra, is a true testament to how far the organization has come—and we have so much more to share with the Sacramento region.”

The highly anticipated 2018-19 season continues with programs highlighting all American composers for the first time, and finishes with a robust semi-staging of the beloved opera, Rigoletto. The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera is also slated to soon announce its 2019-20 season.

###

What began as the Sacramento Symphony in 1948 is now combined into the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera, returning with authority as a melded organization in 2015. The organization is now in its fourth season under the executive leadership of Alice Sauro, and once again offers musical power, beauty, and innovation. As one of the Central Valley’s premier arts ensembles, the organization continues to bring the very best artistic talent to audiences throughout the region.
